Behind the scenes: Our BRT summer

Travel Notes

If you’re anything like us, one of your favorite things about the beginning of the school year was sharing with your friends and classmates what you did on your summer vacation. Well, we haven’t really changed. We still love sharing what we did with our summer months, so here’s our first essay of the school year: “What BRT did on our summer vacation.”

We spent time with “family”

Every summer, our team gets together for a company-wide meeting. Think family reunion, but without your Great Aunt Edna. It’s one of our favorite times of year! We eat together, laugh together and spend time “comparing notes” from the season that’s just concluded. It’s a great time for us to learn from each other – what worked, what didn’t and share our ideas for new destinations, attractions and experiences that we can incorporate into our clients’ upcoming trips. And because our BRT consultants work in cities all over the country, it’s a time we can truly enjoy having our whole team together.

We worked our “summer jobs”

Summer at BRT is business as usual – in the best way. Instead of taking the summer off, our entire team is hard at work all summer long to plan another successful season of incredible student travel experiences. Some of that work is fine-tuning travel plans and itineraries, while other day-to-day activities are less glamorous – like updating our vendors with tweaks and changes. The relationships we have with the hotels, motor coach companies, tour destinations and performance venues we work with are priceless, so we make sure to keep them strong throughout the year. Those relationships are a key reason why our trips feel so effortless to our clients, so it’s important work that we’re happy to do in the (somewhat) quieter summer months.

And of course, we TRAVELED!

Our staff is literally all over the map during the summer (from Winnipeg, MB to Portland, OR, and even Santiago, Chile). Some of our team stayed closer to home and became tourists in our hometown of Chicago, checking out the latest attractions and exploring newly updated tour stops – all in the name of giving our student travelers the best experience possible. Our travels also took us to golf outings, baseball games and DCI events, where we had the chance to relax and have some fun with our clients.

What were you up to this summer? We’d love to hear all about it and include it in Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. You can send a quick “How I spent my summer vacation” note (and a picture!) to us using this link. We may pick a few favorites and share in our next email! Whether you traveled the world or stayed close to home, we hope you had a wonderful summer and are looking forward to this new school year – we know we are. Till next time, travelers!
