My favorite travel memory
My most memorable travel memory comes from a tour that Bob Rogers Travel organized for my own students while I was a public-school teacher. Our band was performing in Wittenberg, Germany, in a beautiful historic theatre that was constructed in the 1920s but was in desperate need of restoration. Noticing a fundraising campaign the theatre was holding, our student officers decided to take up a collection from the musicians in the band during dinner. Just before we performed the last piece, we called the theatre’s owner and the mayor up on stage where our students presented them with the money they had collected (500 Euro). I will never forget the reaction of the audience. There was an audible gasp, followed by boisterous applause, and both women on stage welled up with tears of joy and appreciation.
As we shared our music with the final European audience of the tour – an audience that was yearning for the arts to return in a more prominent way to their small corner of the world – we were reminded how music connects us all.
My hobbies and pastimes
I love to explore new cities and experience their culture by attending concerts, visiting art galleries, and tasing local cuisine. I also really enjoy attending sports events; so anytime I can pair travel with sports, I’m very happy. I love the atmosphere of a college football rivalry game, and I have an ongoing goal to visit all 30 MLB stadiums with family members (I’m up to 24!).
My favorite destination
In the United States, I love visiting New York City. The arts scene (Broadway, jazz clubs, art museums, etc.) is hard to beat. Internationally, I most enjoy visiting Germany. I developed very close friends in Germany through tours organized by Bob Rogers Travel.
